This intervention focuses on the preparation phase of the project for the construction of the trans-Maghreb railway line, financed by the resources of the NEPAD Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility (Special Fund IPFP-NEPAD). The proposed trans-Maghreb railway line, led by the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), is expected to significantly boost regional trade and the economies of the Arab Maghreb Union. The preparation phase of this project, which is the subject of this support, has two main components: the first relates to the technical, economic, financial and socio-environmental feasibility study on: (i) the rehabilitation and modernization of 362 km of railways linking Morocco to Algeria and 503 km of railroad between Algeria and Tunisia, and (ii) the construction of 253 km of new railways with a base speed of 220 km / h to connect Algeria to Tunisia. The second component concerns project management and auditing. It is more specifically the capacity building of the AMU General Secretariat and the accounting and financial audit of the funded activities.
