The purpose of the proposed program is the revitalization of Morocco's urban and rural historic centers (medinas, kasbahs and ksours), that are considered to be the main repository of the country's built, mobile and intangible cultural heritage. Morocco's historic centers are highly valuable assets to be leveraged for the promotion of cultural tourism and for national and local economic growth. Investments in their revitalization would also alleviate the poverty of their residents, significantly higher than the national average.
